You have made the decision to relocate to the UK from Dubai and the mandatory arrangements are final. But what about your timetable?

If you haven’t, this is the time to put your plans on paper. Generally, this process can help you see your progress and it will ensure that you don’t overlook anything. Writing your plans down and crossing out the items that are done helps in tracking your progress.

As always, relocating internationally requires ample planning time. So, the sooner you start preparing, the better. Below are some guidelines on how to smoothly relocate to the UK from Dubai.

4 months before the move

  1. Arrange a moving company. There are a lot of reasons why you should book your movers early. Primarily, it will save you a good amount of money. Most moves cost more when you book them few weeks before your moving date due to freight charges. Start evaluating your furniture early on so when a moving representative comes to estimate your belongings, you won’t be hesitant which furniture to leave.
  2. Start segregating. This is your time to sell/donate the things that you are ready to let go off. You can either sell them online or donate them to different charitable institutions. If you are feeling extra generous, you can give them to your neighbors. An International moving company like Allied will help you with the dos and don’ts of moving. We provide a free estimate so you will have an idea of how much budget to allot with your movables.
  3. If you are moving with your family, this is the best time to prepare them emotionally. Start introducing them to their new environment by checking your new neighborhood over the internet.
  4. Research on prospective universities and schools that is near your area of residence. Doing this early on will save you from cramming later. Plus, you don’t need to add this to your list of ‘to-dos’ when the moving day arrives

2 months before the move

  1. Settle your loans. If you have an outstanding bank, vehicle, or other loans, now is the time to settle them. Ask your bank for a copy of the clearance.
  2. Do your work handover.
  3. Pack your things little by little. Start boxing those blankets, sheets, or clothes that you’re not using. Do not forget to label and do your inventory.

1 month before the move

  1. Close your tenancy contract and advice your landlord. Do your house maintenance check too. If there are holes or cracked paints, start patching them up so you won’t have any issues with your deposit.
  2. Close your bank account, telecom, and utility accounts. If you are subscribed to anything more, close that as well.
  3. Finalize your kids’ school credentials.
  4. Finalize all the formalities in your office.
  5. Finalize your arrangements with your movers.

You and your family will encounter a lot of changes when relocating to the UK from Dubai. Two of the most important things are to be emotionally and financially ready. You may add anything from the basic guides enumerated above. Just keep in mind that there is no better way to make this transition successful than proper planning and sticking to your timetable.
